Uchaguzi Today

Kenya is holding its general election on the 8th of August 2017. The two main candidates, as was the case in the last election, are incumbent Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga. We built Uchaguzi Today — to show you the trends behind each candidate's popularity and explain (via regular updates) the actions they perfomed which illicited either a positive, neutral or negative response.

Methodology

• Get Tweets from the Twitter API
• Analyze Tweets for sentiment
• Display cumulative total of sentiment for past 24 hours.
• Tweet on the hour when something significant happens

Our aim is to get tweets mentioning either @RailaOdinga or @UKenyatta, however, some irrelevant ones find their way through. These are automatically marked as neutral.
